Good scent – good sleep

RUFBetten

The bedroom is a place to feel good and relax. That’s exactly why a perfectly fitting bed and a good room climate are an absolute must. In addition to plenty of fresh air, a discreet room scent can also help us to fall asleep better, to relax or to breathe deeply. Fragrances have a subconscious effect on us. But certain scents can be used specifically to increase our sense of well-being. In numerous studies, researchers have proven that there are fragrances that help us relax, fall asleep and sleep through the night – and even give us better dreams! However, it is important not to hit every breath of air with a heavy “scent club” right away. A too strong scent does not bring relaxation, but can cause headaches and nausea in the worst case. A subtle, fragrant breeze is perfectly sufficient to conjure up good and restful sleep.

To turn your bedroom into a fragrant oasis of well-being and enjoy pure relaxation in your box spring bed or upholstered bed, we’ll tell you three simple basic rules that will guarantee a pleasant and discreet scenting of the bedroom.

1. The choice of the fragrance

There are a number of fragrances that can help you fall asleep more relaxed and sleep better through the night. The choice is huge, so we’ve put together a small selection of scents to “take a whiff”:

Flower magic for sweet dreams: lavender, rose, orange blossom, jasmine.

The absolute all-rounder is lavender. Its violet blossoms exude a pleasantly fresh scent that soothes inner restlessness, nervousness and states of exhaustion. On hot summer nights, the scent of the medicinal plant blows two cool side effects into the bedroom: on the one hand, it keeps mosquitoes from disturbing your well-deserved night’s sleep, and on the other, its cooling effect makes it easier to breathe deeply on hot summer nights.

The rose is not only the “queen of flowers”, but its full, sweet scent has a warming effect and provides inner peace after a tiring day. Thus, rose scent is said to not only help you fall asleep, but also give you sweet dreams. The scent of jasmine could also become a must-have, as it can have a calming and even anxiety-relieving effect. The same goes for neroli, the scent of orange blossom, soothes troubled emotions.

Breathe deeply and clear your head: Eucalyptus, thyme, myrtle and mint.

The nose is stuffy, the head too. A nagging cold like this can severely disrupt your night’s rest. It’s the perfect time to let the scent of eucalyptus waft around and through your nose: its refreshing aroma clears the respiratory tract, making room in your head for relaxation. You can breathe deeply and thus slip more easily into soothing sleep. The scent of thyme or myrtle has a similar effect on the respiratory tract and the mind. If the heat takes your breath away on warm summer nights, try the aroma of mint – it spreads a pleasantly cool breeze in the room.

2. The source of fragrance

But what’s the best way to get your chosen dream scent into the bedroom? Here, too, there are numerous possibilities:

A potpourri, for example, ensures a delicate, long-lasting scent in the bedroom and without any effort at all. The only important thing is that you place the scent mixture on a base. If the blend is not too intense, the nightstand or side stools are ideal for placing next to the bed. For more intense blends, we recommend rather the windowsill, so you create, with the window open, a pleasantly fragrant breeze.

Scent glasses and diffusers also provide good air virtually on their own: with the scent glass, you dose the appropriate scent strength with a flick of the wrist by opening and closing the lid. With a diffuser, you can precisely adjust how intense you want the cloud of fragrance to be that gently transports you to the land of dreams.

Scented sachets are also ideal as a sleep aid. You can easily make them yourself with lavender blossoms, rose petals or orange peels. Simply place the scented sachet under the pillow of your box spring or upholstered bed and it will help you sleep better and deeper. You can also use the fragrance sachets in your bedside storage, so the things stored there will get a pleasant scent.

Another option for bedroom fragrancing are essential oils. These are available from various manufacturers and suppliers in high quality. Here it is particularly important to pay attention to the correct dosage – because the pure essential oils can irritate the skin and respiratory tract. Here’s how you can use them:

  • Place a bowl of lukewarm water in your bedroom. Add about 5 to 10 drops of the essential oil of your choice and let the gentle, soothing scent help you doze off. If this does not produce the relaxing, sleep-promoting effect you desire, you can choose a higher dosage.
  • You can also sprinkle a commercially available paper handkerchief with about 4 to 5 drops of essential oil and place it in a bowl on the bedside table to gently relax and fall asleep.

3. Natural ingredients

Finally, a small but crucial tip: no matter which fragrance and which fragrance source you choose – the ingredients should always be natural. After all, it is particularly important in the bedroom that the room climate is as clean as possible and free of irritating chemical substances.

Simply test which room fragrance and which fragrance source best ensures relaxation and sweet dreams in your box spring bed or upholstered bed. We hope you have fun trying it out.
